2012 Section NE-2B Leadership Team

Section NE-2B is comprised of key volunteers and professionals that administer a strong program. These volunteers help make the Order of the Arrow program possible in every council that is part of Section NE-2B. In this portion of the site, you have an opportunity to meet the leaders that make it happen and understand their jobs and responsibilities.

2012 NE-2B Section Chief – Michael Dioguardi (Buckskin Lodge)

Michael Dioguardi is currently a student in his junior year at Molloy College, Rockville Centre, NY, where he is studying secondary/special education and the Spanish language. He spent his spring 2012 semester studying at the Universidad de León, Spain, to further hone his skills as a linguist. Michael is an Eagle Scout presently active in Crew 182 (Baldwin, NY), and was inducted into the Order of the Arrow during the summer of 2006. He sealed his vows in the Brotherhood the following summer and was called to the Vigil Honor in 2010; he is a recipient of the Founders Award. He has served as Lodge Chief, Chapter Chief, Lodge Training Chairman, Services Chairman, Annual 5k Charity Run Coordinator, Summer Camp Coordinator, and a frequent ceremonialist. He has worked at his local council camp, Onteora Scout Reservation, in various positions over the past 5 years. Some of his interests include running collegiate cross country/track and field, playing various string instruments, collecting and listening to music, camping/hiking, traveling, reading prolific literature, studying Native American culture and dancing, and eating gratuitous amounts of Taco Bell. He attended Seabase in 2007, NOAC in 2009, and will be doing the OATC trek at Philmont this year. He will be attending NOAC this summer as well.

2012 NE-2B Section Vice Chief - Kevin Power (Suanhacky Lodge)

Kevin Power is currently a junior at Saint Francis Prep in Fresh Meadows, NY.  Kevin is an Eagle Scout presently active in Troop 268 in Flushing, NY as well as Crew 473 in Whitestone, NY. Kevin took his ordeal in May 2008 and sealed his Brotherhood the following Spring with Suanhacky Lodge in Queens. He was selected to the Vigil Honor in May 2012. Kevin has served as Lodge Chief, Vice Chief, Operations and Vice Chief, Inductions for the Lodge. He has also served as National Events Chairman, Brotherhood Chairman and Vigil Chairman for the lodge. He is honored to be a recipient of the Founders Award and is currently serving his second term as Section Vice Chief. Kevin has been active in the national program, attending NOAC in both 2009 and 2012 as well as the National Jamboree in 2010. When his schedule permits around school and scouting, Kevin enjoys music, collecting sneakers, and camping, not necessarily in that order.

2012 NE-2B Section Secretary – Sam Messenger (Ranachqua Lodge)

Sam Messenger is a sophomore at the Abraham Joshua Heschel High School in Manhattan. He is an Eagle Scout in Troop 162 (Bronx, NY) and is currently a Troop Guide. Sam was inducted into the Ranachqua Lodge in October 2009. He is currently a Brotherhood member. He served as the Lodge Secretary and Lodge Chief. He wasa three-time staff member at the GNYC National Youth Leadership Training course. He was one of the three hosts of the 2010 Jamboree show, “A Shining Light Across America.” He enjoys playing piano and ukulele, reading, camping, cycling, shooting, sailing and plays on his school’s Ultimate Frisbee team. He went on a Philmont Trek last summer. Sam looks forward to his role as the Section NE-2B Secretary.

NE-2B Section Adviser – Jess Hurwitz (Ktemaque Lodge)

Jess Hurwitz is a Vigil Honor member and Founder’s Award recipient of Ktemaque Lodge, Westchester-Putnam Council #388. He has been in the Scouting program for 39 years and in the Order of the Arrow for 32 years. Jess is a past Lodge Chief and has held various leadership positions and roles with his local Lodge, Council and Section throughout these years. He is the past Section Adviser for Section NE-7B (2008-2011) and the current Section Adviser for Section NE-2B (since 2011). In addition to his role on the new Area 2 Committee as Section Adviser, Jess has also developed the new Area 2 web site serving as its web master as well as taking on other responsibilities on the Area Committee. Jess has worked on the National Events Finance Team at 13 National OA Events & Conferences as well as participating in 2 others and providing off-site support for 3 he was not able to personally attend. Jess is also a 2012 recipient of the OA’s Distinguished Service Award. Professionally, Jess is the Director of Sales and Marketing / CTO for the FleetWeather Group of Companies, a NY based international private weather service and consulting firm providing services to the insurance, legal, engineering and global commerical shipping industries. He resides in Northern Westchester County in NY with his lovely wife Teresa and 2 amazing daughters. Hobbies includes recreational boating, skiing, ice skating, technology and enjoying time with his family.

NE-2B Section Associate Adviser – Tom Pankosky (Achewon Netopalis Lodge)

Tom Pankosky is a Vigil Honor member and Founder’s Award recipient of Achewon Netopalis Lodge, Greenwich Council. He was elected to the OA in Greenwich in 1963 and held the position of Treasurer. Tom has served on the National Finance Committee for 10 National OA Events and Conferences, and 3 National Jamboree’s. Tom retired from a career in investment banking with J.P. Morgan & Co. He lives in Greenwich with his wife Rose. He has two daughters Holly and Krystin. His son Daniel is an Eagle Scout. Tom enjoys outdoor activities of mountaineering, hunting & fishing, and gardening.

 

NE-2B Section Associate Adviser – Glenn Greubel Sr. (Buckskin Lodge)

Glenn Greubel has been involved in Scouting since 1966 and joined the Order of the Arrow in 1974 as a youth. In 2008 he received the Vigil Honor as a member of Buckskin Lodge No. 412 and has served as the Lodge Advisor there since 2007. Outside of the Order, Glenn has served the Theodore Roosevelt Council as a Scoutmaster, the Council’s High Adventure Director, the Council’s Properties Chairmen, and a member of the Council’s Camping Committee. Glenn is also an Eagle Scout and Silver Beaver Recipient.  Glenn is a retired New York City Police Officer and has been a volunteer fireman for over 30 years where he is currently the President of his department’s Benevolent Association. He resides in Merrick with his wife Lisa and his two sons Glenn and Mike who are both Eagle Scouts and Vigil Honor Brothers. Glenn’s hobbies include boating and backpacking.

NE-2B Section Staff Adviser – Jason Tewes (Suanhacky Lodge)

Jason Tewes grew up in Wantagh, NY.  He became a member of Pack 341 as a Tiger Cub in 1990 and advanced to the Rank of Eagle Scout in May of 2000 with Troop 341.  He is a Brotherhood Member of the Order of the Arrow.  Jason graduated from Fredonia State University with a degree in Music Business in May 2005.  He has been working for the Boy Scouts of America since July, 2005.  Jason started as a District Executive with the Theodore Roosevelt Council in the Rough Rider District and Shelter Rock District.  In February 2009 he got promoted to work at the Greater New York Councils in Queens as a Senior District Executive.  Jason is currently the District Director for the Borough of Queens and the OA Section Advisor for Section NE2B.
